Otter Lodge
Description
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands, Otter Lodge is a 3-bedroom property that makes a marvellous retreat at any time of year.
The open-plan living space boasts contemporary delight, where you can enjoy cosying up on the sofas with your family and friends after a day of rambling in the Cairngorms National Park. When you’re not making the most of the delicious eateries in the area, the lodge has a well-equipped kitchen in which to prepare your own meals that can either be enjoyed in the large dining area or on the outside terrace when the weather is fine. In winter months there are wood burning stoves offering welcoming warmth.
Otter Lodge has three bedrooms, one ground-floor king-size, and a first-floor king-size and twin that each have their own balconies. If requested in advance the lodge can sleep up to 8 guests using the double sofa bed in the living area. A contemporary and accessible ground-floor shower room and a family bathroom on the first floor serve as fabulous places to freshen up. With excellent outdoor space and being situated within a National Park, Otter Lodge is a perfect retreat away from a busy world. EPC Rating: Band B

What guests are saying
Otter Lodge is in a wonderful, peaceful location in the woods, with lovely views of lush greenery from the balconies.
It is very private and not overlooked by the other lodges, and would be a fantastic spot for stargazing on a clear night. The lodge was spacious and well equipped, with everything needed in the kitchen, including a dishwasher and bottle opener. The large TV and spacious bathrooms were also appreciated and the neighbouring lodges were very quiet. I didn’t use the outdoor fire during my summer stay, but I imagine it would be lovely to sit around in cooler weather. A few improvements would make the accommodation more comfortable: one of the single beds was quite unsuitable for an adult, with a very lumpy mattress, and the pillows were very thick. There was also occasional noise from the heat pump in the downstairs bedroom at night and the downstairs sink was slow to drain. Overall, though, I really enjoyed my stay at Otter Lodge. The beautiful, tranquil setting and privacy make it a lovely place to relax, and I would happily return and recommend it to others.
The perfect lodge to use as a base for a week of activities.
Even with the tragic wildfires in the Cairngorms and the closures to many planned activities, there was still so much to do to keep this an activity packed holiday for us and our family with children in their late teens. Loch Insh for water sports a 20 min walk away, Aviemore and the Rothiemurchus estate a short drive away but the real treat is the river swimming spot just a 5 min walk through the woods, perfect! On a more niche note, I’ll add that we were impressed by the gluten free options available at restaurants in and around the Aviemore area, made eating out either our daughter much easier than envisaged! The cottage itself is lovely; spacious, airy and modern with a well equipped kitchen. My only small piece of feedback would be for the dishwasher door to be fixed as it slams shut if you don’t hold it down. All in all, a great cottage close to many activities and in a stunning area, we would recommend.
Comfortable well equipped house in a quite location.
The kitchen equipment was better than any other place we have stayed (other than frying pans, see below). Would certainly return for another visit. However, could do with better cleaning/maintenance. The upstairs bathroom bath did not drain and had to be cleared of lots of hair and gunk. As the deck at the entrance area has not been swept there were bits of gravel inside the house that needed to be swept as was the decking area. Additionally the non stick frying pans are badly scratched and not safe to use.
