Otter Lodge

Beautiful location and more than enough room for four adults and a 3 year old.

The downstairs bedroom and adjacent walk in shower was particularly appreciated by the seniors. Heating was a bit problematic, seemed to be pre-programmed to come on full blast in the middle of the night. Could turn it down but getting up to do so was a nuisance.

This is our second visit to Otter Lodge.

The location and the facilities are first class. However, although superficially clean, the property and soft furnishings have become a little grubby. Covers have been applied, but these have also become worn. The furniture would benefit from a thorough clean or replacement. The white cotton bedding has yellowed. In addition, there appears to be a lack of ongoing maintenance. Our bedroom door did not close properly due to a misaligned latch (also noted on a previous visit). Some of the central heating radiators required venting. The dishwasher door cabinet front was missing, which meant the door closed quickly and was difficult to manage. The outdoor steel chiminea was heavily corroded, resulting in hot ash falling to the decking below. Overall, this is a great place to stay, but some maintenance issues would benefit from attention.

Otter Lodge is a wonderful place to come back to after a day out.

The lodge is lovely warm and clean and has everything you need in the kitchen to prepare a meal. It has a dishwasher and washing machine and is very spacious. Would certainly recommend this property and would definitely come back.

These loges are immeasurably more modern and comfortable than the old lodge they replaced.

The layout and design are perfect and lovely to stay in. We'll certainly look at returning next till we visit the area. The one negative point was guests staying in the other lodges not clearing up after their dogs fouling. One neutral point would be that the lodges need some touch-ups in maintenance, and cleanliness not quite perfect, but this won't prevent us from rebooking.

It was clean and had everything we needed. The grandchildren loved it.

Lovely setting and quiet.

Single bed in one of bedrooms squeeze and screw needs sorting. Need mirror for upstairs bathroom.

We couldn't gain access to the property until 4-14 pm as the cleaners were still there.

No t towels provided. Active wasp nest in balcony so couldn't sit out . Oven cleaning done Monday morning while having breakfast should have been done earlier. Dirty decking . Dirty dish under u bend in kitchen where it had been leaking previously. Second freezer drawer was broken . Could have been cleaned to a better standard . This is the only property that we have never received a welcome pack. Es

Beautiful Lodge in Beautiful surroundings.

Good Spacious well maintained and equipped lodge with dishwasher and washer/dryer Bin bags, kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and hand shop all provided. Lovely log burner inside and outside Not so good No comfort at all worse beds i have ever slept in was woken up with terrible back pains at 7 am every day Sofa and chairs were hard and uncomfortable even the cushions just squashed into an uncomfortable shape Smoke alarm was directly above the cooker so it went off every time you cooked anything Upstairs shower flow was poor Thought there might be a small welcome pack every time we book a property of that price we are usually provided with a small pack of local produce considering nearest shop was 6 miles away down a windy road Such a lovely lodge real shame about the comfort

Beautiful property in a great location for a visit to the Highlands.

The lodge was warm and cosy and a short drive to Aviemore for supplies. Would benefit from having more mirrors upstairs in the bedrooms and bathroom as the only one available is behind a door in the bedroom so not ideal for getting ready/doing hair etc. we had everything else (and more!) that we needed.

Really lovely, comfortable lodge just perfect for our family.

Lots of great biking and walking straight from the door which is such a bonus. We hope to come back.

A modern hideaway tucked deep in the forest.

Admittedly we couldn’t find the lodges at first as the sign isn’t lit up at night but once we knew how to find it, driving around locally was very easy. The property is spacious, modern and clean. The open plan living downstairs is ideal for families. WiFi was patchy but this was clearly stated in the welcome pack. The apps (Netflix for example) weren't working on the TV, again not a dealbreaker but with little children it helps if you use these. 17min drive to Aviemore, 30min drive to Cairngorm mountain.

We had a lovely stay.

The location is lovely, very secluded but yet only a short drive to Aviemore. The accommodation is well equipped and clean and spacious. There is a bike wash off facility and also bike lock up facilities at the lodge which was a great additional feature. Cots and high chairs were available for use too which was handy not having to take our own. It’s also very quiet and peaceful location. The only downside is the WiFi is shared with the other lodges (I dont remember this being stated on the listing) so you can’t stream on the tv - we like to YouTube areas we are interested in visiting before we go, so may not be an issue to others. Also otter lodge is furthest away from the car park, so a small inconvenience dragging your stuff from the car to the lodge. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely place was a great base for activities at Rothiemurchus and Morlich with an amazing wild swimming spot 500m down the road.

This was our second trip to the lodges and we definitely plan to come back.

They are beautifully done and in a perfect (for us) setting. This time around, some friends hired one of the apartments too, which worked really well. Comfy beds, an extra arm chair in the lounge compared to what we had last year, which really helped, the nicest log burner over and a fab feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, whilst actually being close to great local amenities. Only a couple of minor criticisms - the oven needed a clean, there need to be more towels (we ended up buying hand towels for both bathrooms) and bigger pots/ pans needed. How can a lodge designed for up to 8 people have pots and pans that are only big enough for three people? We brought baking trays and one big pot from home, but of course that didn’t work on an induction hob. Apart from that, completely gorgeous! Thank you so much for having us - we loved it.

A beautifully kept, modern property in a delightfully tranquil setting.

A couple of things would have made our rating higher: a more effective shower in the upstairs bathroom (lacks power); the plug in the bath isn’t tight and water leaks out; in the kitchen, a bowl suitable for whisking eggs was missed, But really, these are small things and we really enjoyed our stay at the property, particularly the balconies and outdoor space downstairs, allowing us to enjoy the outdoors for longer.

Had another fabulous week at Otter Lodge, lovely lodge in idyllic setting.

It's a shame the bike storage facility is no longer provided. :(

Really well presented property with everything we needed

We had a great stay at otter lodge - absolutely perfect!

Only thing we would say is that the oven didn’t seem to be working properly - on 2 occasions we attempted to cook chips and they wouldn’t cook! Luckily we had bbq’s and ate out most of the time so it didn’t really affect our stay!

Excellent accommodation if you want to be off the beaten track but not too far from lots of activities / facilities.

Very comfortable, clean spacious accommodation . Well equipped with everything you could need . Very peaceful and quiet during the day snd at night . Couldn’t fault it !!! Will definitely be back and will definitely recommend to anyone we know visiting that area .

Need a proper mirror in both bath rooms.

Shaving mirror in downstairs bathroom was only attached by one bolt instead of 2. Need a washing line in the Patio area. TV needs sorting as 3 sets of cables dangling from bottom of TV. Everything else was perfect.

We stayed at Otter Lodge for two nights and we really loved the everything about it.

The lodge had everything we needed and was very clean. The only problem we had was the wifi. The first day it stopped working from around 8pm and then only came back on the next day about 12pm. Mobile signal is not the best especially to get 4G but this didn't stop us from enjoying the time we spent there. In the morning going for a walk in the woods was just lovely. Definitely recommend the Lodge to anyone especially those who want to escape the city life and enjoy some peaceful sounds of nature. :)

Really nice lodge, in a great location.

The lodge was clean, bedrooms were huge, we made full use of the wood fired stove. We will definitely be visiting again.

Lovely property close to Aviemore.

So much to see and do. However, few little, minor things… 1) Outside area not clean. Dirt not swept away & rubbish left. Also, grass could do with a cut and weeds removed. 2) Some minor bits of dirt in shower with some mould starting to show. 3) House sleeps 8 but only 2 of us but yet ran out of toilet roll….if there’d be 8 of us, we’d have had trouble. Having said all of that, these are minor things and we had a fantastic time. Looking forward to our next visit

Do not like the induction hob on the cooker as it is really difficult to control.

One armchair had loose legs which made it questionable to sit in.

It would be better if there was more cutlery and crockery as had to keep dishwashing with less than half a load (not very green).

Great accommodation in a fantastic part of Scotland.

Lots for all the family to do in the surrounding area.

Sadly the instructions for the heating were a little misleading - basically we worked out that if the water was heating up (ie after a shower), you had no heating!

Internet signal/WiFi was patchy and as it was shared across the lodges, it wouldn't even work with my laptop. The cooker rings sometimes worked - couldn't understand why. Would have been nice to leave a couple of dishwasher tablets to start you off - for the price of this villa I would have expected a few extras. Toilet upstairs stopped working one morning.....but got it working again myself. However it's a lovely setting and excellent as a base for the west of the Cairngorms, good wildlife - lots of birds and I think we has a Pine Marten visiting. Red squirrels are nearby, one ran across the garden! Would be good to see the visitor book contain leaflets about the area - nothing there about the area, and I left a book on the Cairngorms to hopefully start off a library! Note that for Otter Lodge you cannot park your car outside the lodge itself, it's a very short walk along a level path to get to the lodge.

These lodges seem to be fairly new so everything was clean and well maintained.

They are light and airy and warm. The remoteness of the area meant that it was very peaceful and quiet which is what we wanted. However some little things were lacking such as hooks on the bathroom doors for towels or bathrobes and neither bathroom had any shelves on which to put ones toiletries. The upstairs bedrooms lacked wardrobes and the little hanging space tucked away in the eaves was barely adequate.
