“We had a wonderful stay here.”

For the first 'couple' holiday after our son left to go to university it was perfect! The area was beautiful, the chalet was immaculate and I've never seen such a well provisioned self catering property before. Everything you could need was there and a lovely welcome pack including some treats for Moppet, our dog! For the first 'couple' holiday after our son left to go to university it was perfect! The area was beautiful, the chalet was immaculate and I've never seen such a well provisioned self catering property before. Everything you could need was there and a lovely welcome pack including some treats for Moppet, our dog! The pod was such a peaceful environment for my husband to write and me to read and the electric fire meant that even with some rather dismal weather it still felt cozy. Despite being the exact amount of remote the WiFi was strong and we even managed to have an Indian takeaway delivered which felt like a real treat! The exrmtra care to provide dog blankets and towels was such a nice touch as well. We have nothing bad to say about the chalet and we will definitely be returning.

The property

Discover Scarba, a delightful and welcoming chalet set on the edge of Balvicar, on the scenic Isle of Seil.

Just a mile from the local shop and connected to the mainland by the historic Bridge Across the Atlantic (built in 1792), this charming retreat offers an ideal base for exploring Scotland’s spectacular west coast. Step inside to a bright and airy interior, where high ceilings and large picture windows frame breathtaking views across Seil Sound.

The open-plan living area is designed for comfort, with ample seating, floor cushions, and a Smart TV — simply log in with your own account to enjoy your favourite shows.

Full-fibre broadband ensures a reliable connection throughout your stay. The well-equipped kitchen includes everything you need for easy meal prep, from an air fryer for quick bites to a family-sized slow cooker — perfect for setting dinner before heading out for the day.

When it’s time to rest, choose between a double or twin bedroom, both offering generous storage and high-quality linen.

A hairdryer is provided in the double room.

The sleek shower room features a walk-in shower, basin, WC, and a wall-mounted fan heater for added comfort on cooler mornings. Outside, the spacious decking area is furnished with a table and seating for four — ideal for breakfast, lunch, or a sunset drink while soaking up the stunning bay views.

The fully enclosed garden is perfect for children and pets, with a large gravel driveway, extra parking, a lawn, and a BBQ area for relaxed outdoor dining. A standout feature is the garden Geo-dome, set on its own wooden deck.

This unique space offers year-round comfort, with versatile seating, power for your devices, and panoramic panels for stargazing in warmth and shelter. A short walk along the shared path leads to the shoreline, where you might spot herons, rabbits, and other local wildlife.

The peaceful setting, rich with nature — including deer and pine martens — makes Scarba truly special, yet it remains conveniently close to amenities and the bus route. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy, from watersports and fishing to walking and cycling.

There’s a nearby golf course (with club hire available at the shop), and the large gravel drive is ideal for boat trailers.

An outdoor hose is perfect for rinsing wetsuits, which can be left to dry on the decking. Whether you're a photographer, artist, nature lover or simply seeking a quiet spot to read, Scarba offers inspiration and tranquillity in equal measure.

A selection of local books and guides is also provided to help you make the most of your stay. Take a short trip to explore the nearby islands of Easdale and Luing, or head north to Oban — just 25 minutes away — where you’ll find fresh seafood, bustling cafés, and ferry links to the Inner Hebrides.

To the south, discover hidden bays and ancient sites around Kilmartin for a truly scenic adventure.

About the location

BALVICAR, ISLE OF SEIL

Oban 14 miles.

The village of Balvicar is found on Seil, the most northerly of the Slate Islands, attached to the Scottish mainland by the Clachan Bridge, built in 1793 and now famously known as the 'Bridge over the Atlantic' as it spans the narrow strip of ocean. This is a very peaceful and tranquil area, with an abundance of wildlife and spectacular scenery which is wonderful for walking, birdwatching, cycling, boating and fishing. Balvicar's village shop and post office boast a wide range of groceries, newspapers, fishing tackle for sale and golf clubs for use at the adjacent Golf Club. The two other inhabited slate islands, Easdale and Luing, are reached by a small passenger ferry and a car ferry respectively. Not to be missed are the high adrenaline boat trips by Sea-fari and the more sedate trips by Sealife Adventures, which offer a wide range of marine eco-tours that include visits to the Gulf of Corryvreckan, home of the world's third largest whirlpool, whale and dolphin watching as well as the chance to spot basking sharks and a wealth of seabirds.
