The River Lodge

The River lodge was in a superb location for exploring the local area and the grounds were very picturesque.

The property was clean and had all the amenities we needed. Some notes for the owner though: - a welcome guide of some sort is needed to give guests more ease when first checking in. House rules, where the WiFi is, how the hot tub works, local places to visit and eat etc - hot tub water was a yellow colour which was pretty off putting. Owner told us via text that this was due to the local water and he would come to visit us the next day but we never heard from him. - some lamps in the living space as the bright lights tend to draw all the bugs from the wild surroundings to the lodge. We had a bit of a mare one night when loads of midges came in after opening the back door. - new hairdryer as the current one was very weak. -no iron Despite the notes above we had a lovely stay exploring the local area and can’t wait to come back to Scotland.

A beautiful place to spend a very relaxing few days surrounded by nature in this lovely secluded spot nestled in to the side of a small wooded valley and stream.

The covered hot tub is very private and provides the same views. The accommodation is ample for a couple, and the small kitchen and breakfast bar arrangement works well for small meals. The location is ideal to explore Oban and the surrounding area.

Incredible facilities and fantastic help from owner for our valentines weekend.

It’s at night where you see how secluded you really are. Fantastic lodge, we will definitely be back!

Incredible visit to the stunning Lodge on the River.

From the moment I saw the images I wanted a break here. Relaxed, secluded, peaceful and in nature. Potentially spent too long away each day but every time I returned it felt like coming Home. A Hot Tub looking out into the River, a comfortable bed and sofa as well as a well stocked kitchen full of cutlery of all different things needed. Ample cupboard and draw space in the room also, while there is a spot for a far available. If staying in in front of the fire and TV is your thing there is a well equipped TV to all the necessary streaming channels should you have them to link up to. So impressed and gutted to come away. A gem!

We had a lovely time.

The location is perfect and scenery is breathtaking. It was just what we wanted for our Christmas getaway. Being in the hot tub surrounded by nature was so peaceful the coming back it and putting on the log burner - just bliss. Kitchen was well equipped with plates, pans, mugs, variety of glasses ( including ones you can take in the hot tub!) great set of knives if you plan on cooking, bottle opener etc. We met Gordon the site manager (and Bailey the dog!) when we arrived who was very welcoming and helpful. We hadn’t expected to see anyone so that was a bonus. A couple of points of improvement: The bed was comfy to begin with but as the time went on it became clear the mattress could do with changing/ upgrading as you could hear the springs at points through the night. The sofa wasn’t the comfiest especially if you’re there for a while and plan on spending time in the lodge for a secluded/ relaxing break. For a location like the lodge a lot of people, like us, I’d imagine go there for a full getaway to relax and do very little so a high quality bed/ a sofa to snuggle up on is a necessity.

Absolutely lovely, ticked all the boxes - comfortable, cosy, quiet, beautiful setting, log burner and hot tub - what's not to love!

Exactly what we needed and couldn't have asked for more. We'll be back!

Just what we needed after our long road trips / walks around Scotland. The only negative was not having a welcome pack.

We honestly had the best time & can’t wait for our next visit.

The lodge was equipped with everything you need, all cooking appliances and we loved the log burner, made it extra cosy. If anything the shower could be more powerful. Thanks again we enjoyed it so much.

For us this lodge was great.

The hot tub was brilliant and although i sleep on a memory foam mattress i slept quite well on the spring bed. My wife swam in the river close by and being so close to nature had a calming effect. We met Gordan on our early arrival and he let us start our stay early which was great as we'd driven for about 8hrs already! For us the place was relaxing and close enough to Oban etc to make it a convenient location. We didn't use the log burner but it would be superb during the colder months.

Lovely little property.

Feels like living in a tree house with a jacuzzi to top it off after a day out exploring. A little piece of heaven.

Took my young 8yr old granddaughter as a last minute replacement, we loved it, wildlife hot tub etc.

Really rural,but Oban is only 25 mins away, Lodge is well appointed and panoramic windows offer fantastic views into the countryside and the river . Don't hesitate if this is what you're after.

Really lovely setting for a relaxing getaway, the owner is brilliant, just a down to earth chap who is on hand should anything arise - which it did not.

The kitchen has everything you would need and whilst we didn't use the hot tub it was always maintained and ready should we want to use it. The cabin feels extremely private and secluded despite being on the owners property which is lovely, and the area is full of wildlife. Shops and amenities are just a 15min drive away in Oban, which also offers ferries over to nearby islands such as Kerrera. Loch Lomond is just in reaching distance too, around 90-120mins away and is well worth it for a couple of days out (especially the birds of prey centre, and can even go kayaking/canoeing on the loch too which was well worth it). Walks are abundant from easy strolls around various lochs to half/full day hikes up various munro's. Slightly smaller than a Munro, the cobbler (Ben Arthur) was also a highlight, offering stunning views over loch lomond and beyond - the left path up also verges on a rock climbing scramble which was highly enjoyable (but not so enjoyed by the legs). Overall was a great stay!

Wonderful place.

Had a problem with hot water during the stay but Gordon was spot on, got it sorted out quickly. Ideal place to stay, easy to get to Oban for shops and entertainment. Perfect break from day to day life!

Peaceful and tranquil, no better place to recharge and de-stress

Had a great time, considering the weather was dreadful.

Was spotlessly clean, everything you could want or need was provided. Only down side was, never got to use the hot tube as the steps down to it, were lethal ,very steep and the fallen leaves made it very slippery. Gordon as always was straight there to ensure everything was okay.. Start of the year stayed in the 'Log Cabin' still can't decide which was better. Can't recommend enough. If you can, rush and book NOW!!

This is the most beautiful setting I have ever stayed in, the photos really dont do it justice, it's absolutely perfect!

Beautiful lodge.

Very clean. It has everything you need. The little heater warms the cabin quickly. There is plenty storage in the bedroom. It really felt like being at home and having a place for our things. Even in the bathroom, there is lovely shelves. The hot tub was bonus. Very private area. Oban is a short drive away. We had a great week here in October.

After a day out coming back to the hot tub was wonderful, clean, hot, and just what we needed. Gordon was very helpful and kept the hot tub in tip top condition. We hope to come back (just wish it was closer to us! )

River Lodge was all and more than we had hoped for.

We enjoyed two weeks in this beautiful peaceful setting. The Lodge was comfortable and well equipped. Gordon the manager was so helpful and courteous, nothing was too much trouble for him. We had the best time at River Lodge and exploring the Oban area.

Property really, Gordon very helpful would have liked some soft lighting or dimmer switch on the lights in the living area, very minor suggestion

Fantastic rural property but within easy reach of Oban if visiting the islands.

Very quiet and private and very well equipped with everything you might need. And a lovely hot tub in the woods to help you relax in the evenings ! Recommended.

The lodge was just perfect for a week of relaxation.

The kitchen is well equipped and the bed and sofa are very comfy, sitting in the hot tub on an evening was perfect. Gordon was really helpful, we had an issue with the shower but it was sorted quickly. We visited the small islands that are an hour from the lodge, all beautiful. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we've booked again so next year.

We loved the location and how private it was.

It is right on the river, and next to some hiking trails, and it is pretty close to Oban and other surrounding attractions. We loved the wood burner and made plenty of use out of the kitchen as we cooked every night of our stay. The shower is not the best, as the heating controls are fiddly and could use some improvements to make it that much more special. I also think it would be good if there was a sign that explained the slightly brown water as that was a worry until I googled it. We only used the hot tub once on our stay, as it was slightly dirty and quite chlorinated. We loved the atmosphere of the lodge, including the lighting outside, but there should be a lamp in the lounge to give a more homely feel. Would recommend!

We stayed Christmas 2022 and loved every minute of it.

Lodge was very clean and well equipped, even supplied with unlimited logs for log burner. The ground keeper Gordon I think, was very helpful and informative. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked for next Christmas. This lodge is a credit to owners who obviously have an interest in making sure their guests enjoy their time there. The bottle of bubbly and chocolates were also a nice touch.

I stayed over for the week with my girlfriend and it was fantastic, nicely situated so you can go into oban for food and drinks or be out in the wilderness exploring.

Beautiful lodge,quiet peaceful location,spotlessly clean,very cosy,super comfy bed and had everything in it you could possibly need.

loved the fact wood was provided for log fire and Gordon the caretaker was brilliant,made sure all the steps were salted to our lodge and hot tub as it had snowed.loved it ☺️.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the River Lodge, which had everything we required.

Really comfy bed and the wood burner made it very cosy. Smart TV was a bonus, allowing us to watch the rugby.

We had a lovely relaxing week at River Lodge.

The lodge had everything we needed. Only a short drive to Oban for shops, restaurants etc. Yes the water had a brown tinge to it but it was absolutely fine. Had a problem with the T.V but it was sorted straight away by Gordon, who is extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Hot tub was lovely. Just be careful to turn towards the house and not the log cabin - on arrival. All in all a thumbs up from us.

A fantastic location and a great base to tour this part of Western Scotland.

The site Manger was friendly and very helpful. Would be useful if the Lodge had a washing machine.

If you could fix the weather, would be wonderful, otherwise all good.

Our holiday did not get off to the expected start, after driving105 miles.

The ""Directions" that I printed from your website stated "After turning into the property bear left as the road divides and this road divides and this road leads around the back of Glen Euchar House to the property" - IT DOES NOT LEAD TO THE RIVER LODGE. Instead we came to a steep/ narrow/ /track, that we expected to lead to the property, it was a dead end, and required a multiple point turn - with my car making contact with tree branches - my car (and its paintwork), is inly 7 mouths old. Did anyone proof read these instructions? This is our first rental in Scotland/ England/ France/ Portugal/ Ireland/ Germany/ Canada/ USA - where a local information folder (Doctor/ Dentist/ Places to visit/ Restaurants/ Food shopping etc) was was not provided. Due to circumstances beyond the owners control (it was/ is, a BT problem), we had no Broadband/ WiFi during our stay. The TV channels on offer on both TVs were very limited, as an access card was required for the majority of channels - which was not supplied. A DVD player (with no remote control - select TV output) was suppled towards the end of our stay to compensate for lack of Internet etc - it appeared to play our DVDs, but it could not communicate with any of the TVs HDMI inputs, it was stuck in "ARC" output mode. This was not our usual (most enjoyable) experience of of Sykes Cottages.

Lovely property if a little hard to find initially.

It was great with all the stuff you need and very quiet and private. If I ws going to suggest any improvements a folder with local facilities and contacts in case I needed a dentist or doctor etc and most important of a all a big note or sign telling you the water is brown and its normal.

The Lodge is a great place to stay.

It is in a wonderful location if you want to relax and enjoy the splendid stunning Scottish countryside. The walk through the Glen to Loch Scammadale is a wonderful walk from the Lodge. The Lodge is very well equipped, comfy bed and lovely hot tub. The only downside for us was the shower, we couldn’t get it to run any hotter than Luke warm. We would have also liked some lamps in the sitting area. We brought some plastic glasses to use in the hot tub, as we didn’t want to use glass for safety.

Perfect situation for a peaceful, relaxing holiday.

Lodge very comfortable with everything provided, extra special having hot tub. Near Oban and many gardens to visit in the area. Caretaker very friendly & helpful.

One of the comfiest beds I've slept in. Husband and I would definitely return. Some hooks on hot tub surround would be welcome for hanging towel and bath robe on...but that's one small detail in an otherwise delightful holiday home.

My wife and I have stayed in 5 similar cabins over the past 18 months and this one was by far the best.

We had a difficult 2021 and wanted to get away from it all over the New Year. This property provided that and more - absolutely brilliant. The outside hot tub, the scenery, the log fire...everything about it was magical. We will definitely be back.

The property was even better than the photos, we had an excellent few days stay.

Everything we needed had been thought of and we would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely stunning, we had an amazing time here, very private and we're not bothered during our stay for Christmas and will definitely be back in the future !

We had an absolutely wonderful time at The River Lodge.

The house is warm and cosy with everything you could need and the location is stunning - quiet, remote and beautiful but close enough to Oban to make shopping, meals out etc possible. We can’t wait to go back!

Sykes - Please ensure you give the right directions to the property.

It would be hard to find under normal circumstances but was almost impossible when we were given the directions to the Log Cabin instead of the River Lodge. Spa pool, outlook from the lounge and bedroom windows and tree setting were just divine. Decor beautifully fresh and contemporary and property was amazingly clean. The site manager Gordon was wonderfully friendly and incredibly helpful. He sorted a problem with hob so quickly we were amazed how he managed it. Can't recommend this property enough - probably the best Sykes we have ever stayed in.

Private and tranquil. Well equipped accommodation; the addition of a reading lamp in the lounge area and perhaps a wall-mounted fan heater in the bathroom would be useful...otherwise, it was perfect!

Any issues were sorted by Gordon who was local and available. Wifi was an issue which was eventually sorted to a degree.Choice of tv channels limited due to issues with wifi

The location of the lodge was ideal, very tranquil and peaceful.

Not really any other properties nearby apart from the other two that are onsite. We were called prior to our arrival to make sure we knew exactly where we were going and how to get there. Just a short drive from Oban which is perfect if you have forgotten anything. The lodge was immaculate upon arrival and already extremely cosy. The outdoor decking is perfect for a morning coffee and to just listen to your surrounding. This environment was made even better by the hot tub situated right outside the property. Would definitely recommend a stay here and I will definitely be back.

This was a wonderful holiday lodge, well equipped, clean and a beautiful location.

The perfect place for a romantic break. Great views with the calming sound of the river flowing and the birds chirping. We even saw a little red squirrel jumping about one morning from the great big windows looking on to the trees. Will be back again!
