We have tried to equip the cottage well so that it is a home away from home. My brother took his electric vehicle up there a month or so back and he also found it a lot easier than expected. It is our intention over the course of the next year or so to look into the possibility of putting an electric vehicle charger at the property for guests to use. Re the 9am check out, we have a great housekeeper who is very reliable and extremely thorough, hence the house is always very clean and welcoming for guests. The downside is that we have to share her with another property as there is a real shortage of cleaners in the area who can do the changeovers for us. We are very aware that this is one of the downsides of the cottage and some weeks we are able to change the check in/check out times depending on other bookings. We keep the situation under review and hope to be able to change the times at some point in the future.

Thank you Jackie for your great feedback. We are lucky to have a fantastic housekeeper who does an amazing job with the cleaning and I have passed your comments onto her. Although the cottage is in a fairly remote location, it is still served by Morrisons and Asda home delivery out of Inverness (though you do have to be organised and get a slot a few weeks in advance of your holiday). We always find we head out towards Kyle and Broadford for days out during the week so combine a trip to the Co-op with our day out. As you found, the views and walks more than make up for the lack of shops! We are staying up there for New Year so I will check out the mattress. We are so pleased that you had an amazing holiday and look forward to welcoming you back.

I hosted a dinner party for friends when I was there last week and it was just like cooking in my kitchen at home! We have to agree with you that the area is very scenic - we know we are biased but the view across Loch Duich to the 5 Sisters of Kintail is one of the best views anywhere. About half way through the walk the sun popped out, a rainbow appeared and I got some amazing photos - so even bad weather has its bonuses! The house is a good size, and with the 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, as well as the separate lounge and dining rooms makes it a very comfortable house for a group of 6 - plenty of space to all be together as a group or to find your own space for some peace and quiet. Really pleased that you got some walking in - it is a great location for walking with so many different options available from casual walkers to experienced hill climbers - all with stunning scenery. Thank you Stephen for your honest feedback. First and foremost we are glad that you had a lovely holiday and appreciated the surrounding scenery, which is nothing more than amazing - I could sit and look at that view all day long with its changing light. We have never disguised the fact that the property is not loch side and future guests shouldn't worry about sitting on the front decking. The neighbours we have in Ratagan are the best you could wish for anywhere - very friendly, discreet and exceptionally helpful. We would be lost without them. They are fully aware it is a holiday let and are very welcoming to all of our guests. And just remember - the view for them is at the front of their house - so that is where they tend to spend a lot of their time rather than at the back looking at Silver Birch Lodge. Sorry that you didn't find the beds comfortable. It is nigh on impossible to find a bed to suit everybody. I don't like soft beds, so we have tended to go for the slightly firmer bed - the kings are both quality sprung mattresses with memory foam on top. With regard to the 9am check in time we can only apologise. We have a really good, reliable and efficient housekeeper, but housekeepers for holiday lets are in high demand and short supply, much like many other jobs at present. As a result, most housekeepers do more than one changeover in a day and due to us being a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom property, the only way this can be fitted in is for a 9am check out. For many people this isn't an issue as they have a long distance to drive anyway so need an early start. When circumstances allow, we do let guests know if they can check out a bit later although this tends to be mainly in the lower season. We are keeping this closely under review and when circumstances allow we will change it. We are sorry that you felt you had to leave on the Friday afternoon because of it. If it is ever a huge issue, with enough notice we may be able to come to an alternative arrangement. On that note, we will look forward to welcoming you back should you wish to return in the future.

Unfortunately, with the water and electricity set up as it is at the house, the electric showers upstairs are our only option. However, at least there is a mixer shower downstairs which has more power to it, so there is an alternative option - and the upstairs showers, whilst not being that powerful, are still very usable showers. We agree with the log burner, but unfortunately there was a choice between a log burner and a new kitchen so we went with the latter as the kitchen really needed updating.
