The Lodge

We had an absolutely brilliant stay at Hartlington Lodge.

The lodge itself is stunning, it is beautifully decorated, incredibly cozy, and equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. It truly felt like a home away from home, and it was the perfect, peaceful setting to return to each evening. ​Penny was a fantastic host whose thoughtful hospitality made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. We couldn’t have asked for a better getaway

We had a great time at the Lodge - a lovely house in an absolutely stunning location.

Mid-April, with daffodils everywhere and lambs in the field across the lane, was the perfect time to visit. Burnsall is very pretty and the Yorkshire Dales are not half bad. Penny was a very welcoming and helpful host.

The heating is inadequate in cold weather.

We stayed at the end of March and were very cold.

Fabulous property with beautiful views the welcome pack and all the extra goodies such as wine eggs milk fruit bowl to name a few were lovely the toiletries that were provided were lovely too.

We found The Lodge at Hartlington to be a beautiful place to stay.

The idyllic surroundings made for a very peaceful and relaxing week, and The Lodge itself was immaculately clean and extremely well equipped. The welcome package was fabulous; very well thought out and so generous! A lovely gesture. The Lodge is a perfect getaway for a chilled break.

The location was perfect. The weather wasn’t great but it didn’t matter as we loved watching the birds whilst sitting next to a roaring fire. I think you would enjoy this cottage whatever time of year you visited. The welcome package was very generous and the cottage is very well equipped. It has a very homely feel. We would recommend the Red Lion at Burnsall for drinks in the lounge. We visited in November and it was all very Christmassy in the pubs. The Black Horse in Grassington was particularly great.

We spent a lovely relaxing week in this cottage.

Everything had been thought of to make our stay special. Lots of little extras, and even a teddy to take home! Plenty of places to visit in the area as well as walks along the Dales Way. Would certainly recommend. The EV charger was an added bonus.

The Lodge is a very peaceful, clean and comfortable base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales.

Plenty of walks nearby and lovely villages to explore. Would thoroughly recommend the cottage.

The Lodge is a beautiful property.

The owners have thought of everything, ensuring you don't need any essentials as they are all provided, including amazing extras a bottle of wine, fruit, crisps, even popcorn, fruit, enough toilet rolls, kitchen roll, shampoo condition and body and hand washes. The location is perfect for walkers, as well as short drives to lots of places to visit. We fell in love with the Yorkshire Dales and could not have asked for a better first visit. Thank you for making our stay so perfect in every day.

This was an excellent property and location for our week away.

The Lodge was extremely comfortable and clean for our family of six. It is well equipped; the ample treats provided made us feel welcome. Situated in the Dales, and surrounded by nature is ideal for young children, a teenager and adults, to explore. This is a perfect place for days out, including Burnsall, Skipton, Brimham Rocks, Stumpy Cross Caverns, Bolton Abbey, Fountains Abbey, Pateley Bridge, Hebden and York. Thank you Penny and John.

The Lodge really is a most wonderful place to spend a week.

The perfect location from which to explore the Dales and the beauty of the surrounding area. It had everything we needed and more. Penny and John could not have done more to make our stay as brilliant as it was. The 'goodies' that they provided upon our arrival was above and beyond anything we had experienced before from a holiday cottage. A big thank you from us all.

Stunning surroundings which force you to relax and unwind. Very attentive hosts and the most well equipped and comfortable house you could wish for!

The Lodge was perfect!

Beautiful grounds with very well tended plants and flowers, and great outdoor seating areas. We greatly appreciated the "Welcome pack" which was very generous. Super comfy beds, with very good quality linens towels. Kitchen equipped with everything you could need, loved the Everhot cooker. Can't wait to return. "Penny & John" perfect hosts

Beautiful house and garden, extremely well equipped, clean and comfortable with much appreciated added extra's , lots of space for us as six adults and a baby, many thanks to John and Penny , we will definitely return.

We had a very enjoyable stay at The Lodge.

It was so well-equipped and comfortable, and we found lots to do in the area, despite the rain. We appreciated the owners' care that had gone into the presentation and arrangement of the house as a holiday let, and we were delighted with the EV charging facility.

We stayed late March/ early April.

This is a lovely cottage in a lovely location, with a warm welcome from the owners. It's one of the best cottages we have stayed in. We were 3 generations of the same family and the cottage worked well for all of us. Both Burnsall and Appletreewick are walkable from the cottage (and there are other walks from there too). The 'Harty bears' provided were appreciated by our young grandchildren!

The Lodge was beautiful with a lovely view from the patio. We enjoyed the additional gardens and seating areas. We really appreciated the attention to detail and all the extras too! Overall a really fabulous stay with great hospitality from Penny and John. We hope to return and would definitely recommend to others.

A fantastic lodge, extremely good facilities and amenities.

Penny couldn’t do enough for us! The lodge was very well stocked with cupboard essentials and personal care items. We would highly recommend!

We came home yesterday after a wonderful, much needed, relaxing week at The Lodge.

The house is everything and more than you could wish for. Penny and John go out of their way to make sure you are welcomed from the minute you walk in. All of the little extras were a lovely surprise. The Lodge is definitely up there amongst the best places we have ever stayed. We had two days just staying in because we were so comfortable. The weather was perfect which was an added bonus. Thank you Penny and John.

We had an amazing stay at Hartlington Hall, our first visit to the Dales we were not disappointed.

Penny and John had thought of every little thing,not only was the accommodation super comfortable, and the views from the Lodge were wonderful, it was quite and calm just perfect for a week's break. The additional touches in the kitchen, like teas, coffees, chocolate, milk, biscuits, cooking spices and not forgetting the wine! Location of the Lodge is an ideal place to explore the Dales. We would love to come back again one of the nicest places we have visited.

One of the nicest holiday cottages we’ve ever stayed in.

The cottage was perfect in every way - charming, very comfortable, quiet, had everything we needed, and the hosts were so welcoming, providing things like milk, eggs, fruit etc. Fabulously located about a 10min walk to the sweet village of Burnsall and its lovely riverside pub, and then a beautiful walk along the river to the villages of Hebden and Grassington. There are also lots of other walking options nearby. We couldn’t have chosen better and hope to return soon.

Great place to stay lovely and very clean most welcoming

My friends and I were enchanted by The Lodge and its spacious, light-filled rooms, charming decor and the owners’ attention to our every comfort.

Secluded yet not remote, it offers tranquility and beautiful views, a lovely terrace and pretty gardens, and yet is a manageable walk to Burnstall village, where we enjoyed a terrific Sunday lunch at the Red Lion pub. To greet us upon arrival, there were fresh flowers and fruit, eggs from the owners’ hens, milk, and a nice bottle of wine, and all the basic necessities, such as coffee, tea, etc. The beds were very comftable, and there was even a choice of pillows. And North Yorkshire is very beautiful, with plenty to see and do. We had a wonderful time, and hope to come back some day. Thanks, Penny and John!

This was my second visit to The Lodge was just as good as the first time infact better the little touches outstanding the fresh eggs lovely for breakfast great place Penny

The property was very clean and comfortable.

The only little niggle was that there were no bowls big enough to hold pasta or rice meals.

The Lodge is incredible, a beautiful building in a stunning location.

It's beautifully decorated and very well equipped and the generous welcome basket means from the moment you arrive you are able to relax. Penny and John have thought of everything you would need to feel comfortable and enjoy your holiday. The location is peaceful and a great base for local walks and exploring the wider Dales. We would definitely recommend The Lodge as a holiday location and can't wait to go back.

I and my family have just returned from this idyllic cottage & I must I say idyllic as this was quite obvious no expense has been spared by Penny & John to create a superb holiday home in beautiful surroundings.

The attention to detail in ensuring that comfort was assured, a welcome pack better than we have ever seen before, the equipment provided was of the best quality & more comprehensive than I have ever seen before in all the years I have embarked on cottage holidaying. This property is gorgeous - the photographs really don’t do it justice.

The lodge is nestled in a lovely spot with beautiful views in all directions. The property is immaculate throughout and there are some very thoughtful touches - different types of pillows available according to your preference; a lovely welcome basket; fresh flowers; a supply of kitchen and cleaning products and even toiletries in the bathrooms - everything has been thought of. Best of all are the hosts, who are simply wonderful, so thoughtful and kind. Cannot recommend highly enough!

What a fantastic find!

The best thing about this property are all the little extras and welcome treats such as wine, chocs, bottle of milk, fruit and flowers. Lots of attention to detail and our family loved using the jacuzzi bath. All rooms are tastefully decorated in a traditional style with a modern twist. The living room is super cosy and the view of the Dales out of the large window was fabulous. The bbq is excellent and large enough to cook six big steaks at once. Beds are comfy and the rooms are well ventilated and airy. The kitchen is perfectly stocked and the agar cooking range is an excellent feature. The washer/dryer is a good brand and very handy. Our only request would be to include a drying rack for clothes as soon walking trouser and tshirts can’t be put in a tumble dryer. We had some fantastic walks in kettlewell and Buckden-Cray-Hubberholme. We also walked along the river to Grassington. Thank you Penny and John for being the perfect hosts We will certainly be back!

We have been to many different properties, the Lodge is the best of the lot in terms of location, facilities, and quality of everything.

We racked our brains to find a negative, and failed! The true test of a property is 'would we return' the answer is 100% Yes!

The owners are to be congratulated for the work they have done to The Lodge to make it the best holiday cottage we have stayed in. From well equipped kitchen and utility to well appointed bathrooms and tastefully decorated rooms to aid relaxation. However, it was outside for us that produced the biggest "WOW." The immediate countryside is stunning coupled with the local flora and fauna. Nearby villages provide all that is required. Will we be returning? Definitely.

Enjoyed a lovely weekend, with friends, in this fabulous cottage.

It is beyond comfortable and presented to the highest standard. Penny and John, the owners, have added extra touches, flowers, biscuits, chocolates, wine & fruit and all basics, such as tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid are provided, as are a selection of pillows to choose from, if required. The setting is beautiful and we were able to sit out in the sunshine in well kept gardens. So glad we found this cottage & hope to return again soon.

Location, location location.

We were the first people to stay in this newly-refurbished property and found the location to be superb. Within easy reach of Skipton and Grassington by car and with walks in both directions along the river Wharfe along the Dales Way towards Burnsall and Appletreewick (and the Craven Arms pub!). The views from the terrace and the sitting room are wonderful. Unfortunately we did not have good enough weather to enjoy the barbecue. The property is well-equipped and warm and the beds are supremely comfortable with high-quality linen. We hope to be able to return some day.
