Duck Lodge

Fabulous stay a lovely breakaway in a peaceful location.

I have impaired mobility but a short walk through pub beer garden which is beautifully maintained, passed the fruit trees and your at the lodge. Wave a carrot to the alpacas and they're straight over for breakfast and even give a little shout of approval. Lodge was immaculate, bread, milk, jam, biscuits, coffee, bottled water on arrival which I thought was a lovely gesture.(only thing missing was the vodka

Duck Lodge was an amazing place to stay and the hosts were friendly and helpful.

The lodge is bigger than we expected and very tastefully decorated with lots of attention to detail, it was also incredibly clean. Being self catering we were pleasantly surprised to find hand wash, washing up liquid, a scourer, tea, coffee, a pint of milk, wafers and a lovely loaf of bread with butter and jam. The lodge is set in a really peaceful and beautiful spot and we got to see the cute alpacas as well as other wildlife. The lodge would be great if you wanted to relax or alternatively to explore the gorgoeus surrounding villages and countryside.

We wanted something in north Yorkshire, but not on a big site and wanted a lodge, Ducks lodge really appealed to us, when looking on Sykes cottages website and in the garden of a pub, the Black Horse, the lodge had everything we needed for a 3 night stay, it was very quiet and a great base, the pub does fabulous meals at good prices, the hosts where very welcoming and there was even bread, jam, tea, coffee, milk welcoming pack.

On arrival we were pleased with the lodge.

It is situated next to a field with alpacas and felt cosy, with blankets folded for us to use, which was a nice touch. However, when I had a shower, it leaked into the main area, and water ran underneath the bed. We had to use our towels to clean it up as there was a significant amount. The owner said a plumber would attend after we had left. There appeared to be some existing water damage to the flooring in that area. The door handle was wobbly, and the lock stopped working at one point. After raising these issues, there was a difference of opinion about the cause of the lock problem. The overall location was pleasant, but the issues with the shower and maintenance affected our stay.

Excellent accommodation, and in a good position to see different parts of North Yorkshire .

The food in the restaurant menu has a good choice to pick from and good size portions. Owners very welcoming and the staff very attentive.

It is very comfortable and spotless. You have everything you need and more. The pub is near and is very welcoming. The food is amazing. We will definitely be going back.

Accommodation brilliant, loved the Alpacas in the next field.

Same feedback as the pheasant lodge as staying with friends at the same time. Pub owner very helpful after his Chef let him down, he kindly drove us to a local restaurant and collected us after we had finished.

It's a really well thought out unit, and is finished to a very high standard, and very comfortable. It's ideally situated for exploring North Yorkshire, and to top it all, the Black Horse Pub was excellent. The owners, Cheryl and Dave were great hosts and really helpful, and the food and local ales were excellent. We hope to visit again in the future and strongly recommend a visit. Brian & Judy
