What guests are saying
Loved staying at Barney's Retreat in Carnforth.
Very spacious, quality furniture, lots of storage space and a peaceful site setting. The site with its many lakes was beautiful to walk around with my dog & a lovely bar restaurant on site. Would have liked a few simple instructions for TV, Air-Fryer & especially Microwave, though worked most of them out in the end.
Overall we had a lovely week at Barney’s retreat.
Welcome pack was appreciated and the lodge was beautifully presented. Any issues we had have been mentioned before, the outdoor furniture needed to be cleaned before use and coffee machine was missing due to previous rental failure. Holiday park is a very nice location and we enjoyed a good meal in the on-site restaurant; but do check opening times as it doesn’t necessarily stick to what it says in the door. An evening walk round the lake was a real treat. Final comment on the site, not Sykes or the lodge owner. Very basic and limited recycling facilities (glass only) is not a great offering in 2026. We took much of our recycling home with us as even the container labelled ‘recycling’ was not true and goes landfill as confirmed by site staff.
Lovely big Lodge plenty of room inside, unfortunately the position of the Lodge and the fact that we could not sit on the decking because it was not clean was disappointing.
The site itself was very good and ideally located for exploring the lakes.
