Description
4 Southern Place is a beautifully designed, high‑end lodge set within a quiet corner of the Cornish countryside, and just a short drive from the South Cornish coast and the harbour towns of Looe, Polperro and Fowey. Designed for guests seeking privacy, tranquillity and a restorative escape in nature, this single‑storey retreat offers a high level of seclusion and a genuine sense of wellbeing from the moment you arrive.
The lodge sits within a sheltered, leafy setting and isn’t overlooked, giving you the rare luxury of genuine peace and quiet.
The enclosed, gated decking creates a secure outdoor space for pets and small children, while offering a private spot to relax at any time of day.
Morning birdsong provides a gentle start, and dusk brings a stillness that settles softly across the landscape, adding to the sense of calm and space.
Inside, the open‑plan living area has been styled with warm natural materials, clean lines and soft lighting, creating a soothing environment to unwind in.
The woodburning stove adds a comforting glow on cooler days — ideal for slow evenings after exploring the coast or countryside.
Large glass doors open onto the deck and frame the greenery beyond, blurring the line between inside and out and allowing the natural surroundings to become part of the experience.
The king‑size bedroom offers a restful retreat of its own, complete with soft cotton bed linens, a TV for a late night movie, and direct access to the decking - perfect for stepping outside to enjoy fresh morning air or watching the changing light through the trees.
The en‑suite, finished in calming green tones, brings a gentle, spa‑like feel with complimentary toiletries provided. A comfortable twin room and a modern family bathroom complete the layout, making the lodge equally suited to couples, small families and friends travelling together.
While wonderfully tranquil, 4 Southern Place is perfectly located for exploring the best of South Cornwall.
Looe’s harbour and sandy beach, Polperro’s charming narrow streets, and Fowey’s riverside cafés, bars, restaurants and boutique shops are all within easy reach.
Walkers will find excellent routes nearby, from the rugged beauty of Bodmin Moor to woodland trails at Cardinham Woods, lakeside paths at Siblyback Lake, and stretches of the South West Coast Path offering dramatic coastal views.
Pet owners are exceptionally well catered for too.
Many of the area’s finest stretches of coast are dog friendly year‑round, including Talland Bay, Seaton Beach, and Lantic Bay - perfect for long walks, exploring rock pools or letting dogs enjoy the shoreline.
For memorable days out, you’re well placed for world‑class attractions including the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the thrilling zip wires and aquapark at Adrenaline Quarry, Porfell Wildlife Park, and the atmospheric underground caverns at Carnglaze - each offering something different for families, adventurers and nature‑lovers alike.
After each outing, the lodge draws you back into its quiet rhythm - whether you’re sitting on the deck listening to birdsong, watching the light shift across the trees, or simply enjoying the privacy and comfort that make 4 Southern Place feel like a peaceful and restorative hideaway.

What guests are saying
The property was very clean, well laid out, and looked recently decorated (tale-tale spots of paint here and there) with comfortable sofas, cushion’s etc.
Outside decking was well maintained with lovely wooden table and chair’s provided. The very well planted screen of trees and shrubs made for a lovely peaceful and private space. There was a thoughtful starter pack containing tea, coffee, sugar, milk and bin bag to get started. On the negative side, the kitchen was a little tired, with cupboard doors loose. The oven is a convection oven with a grill pan but no additional shelves making cooking very slow and multiple things difficult. The gas hob however was brilliant. The bedding provided was too warm for us personally, and there aren’t any windows to be left open only full doors, which with a dog wasn’t an option, but as I said that is a personal choice. The addition of an air fryer for the kitchen and a grab handle by the bath to help pull oneself out would be amazing. The site was kept immaculate the whole time. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Sorry - you asked for a short review!
Amazing lodge, spotless.
The site was also great, well maintained very private and quiet. Would highly recommend.
Overall very happy with our stay.
The site was well kept and peaceful. The Lodge we had was stated as being refurbished in April 2026, we stopped in August 2026. You could see it had been refurbished, but I think some thought into the longevity of materials used was needed. This is a short term holiday unit, which results in alot of wear and abuse, which was evident on things such as real wood doors and worktops with water/damp damage. Lodge was overall lovely, warm and fairly comfortable, but you could see it was at the end of a summer season. I am though being picky with my review, and give it 4 stars overall. Would be nice to have either oven gloves or a tool to remove oven shelf, we had to use a folded towel which isn't ideal. The window handles used on the various external doors/windows seemed flimsy, and made closing the doors extremely difficult. We had dogs which wanted to come in and out, so closing these doors became a chore, we had to avoid some doors as the handles were close to breaking.

Please note that the ponds and surrounding reed beds form an important natural habitat for local wildlife. During the bird nesting season, typically between March and September, the reeds may appear more established than shown in some website photographs.
